A CABIN ON LAKE MICHIGAN

ARCH 400 BRIEF #1

The Lake Michigan A-Frame Cabin project is an innovative architectural endeavor aimed at creating a self-sustaining and net-zero structure that harmonizes with its natural surroundings. The one-week design challenge focused on integrating sustainability as a primary design consideration from the inception of the project, challenging traditional approaches where sustainability is often an afterthought in the overall design process.

The Lake Michigan A-Frame Cabin project addresses shoreline erosion and rising water levels through innovative design. The exterior deck, designed to float, adapts to the changing lake levels, providing a continuous outdoor space over the life of the home. Helical piers and strategically planted native flora contribute to stability and erosion control, making the cabin a resilient and environmentally conscious retreat on the dynamic shores of Lake Michigan.
