THE HAVEN AVIARY

2022 IHLA COMPETITION FINALIST

The Haven will serve as a beacon of light and hope for the environmentally minded community of Martinsville. Using a unique combination of glulam beams and tensile membranes, it soars over the site in a graceful, meaningful arc. The main ramp serves as a gentle glide and overlook, evoking the feeling of a bird in flight into the treetops. The design ends with a dramatic cantilevered education facility that allows visitors to become one with the birds in the treetops. The lower ramp descends through the tree line and around the interior aviary, offering views of the veterinary facilities and birds under care.
